Abstract

Sixty mandibular second molars were investigated to determine the root canal morphology with the methods of direct observation, radiography, and transparent specimen.
The following results were obtained.
1. Of the 60 teeth, 32 teeth had completely separated mesial and distal root, V teeth had buccally fused but lingually separated root and one single rooted tooth was also founded.
2. On the radiographs of the teeth with buccally fused root, mesial and distal root were separated but showed close proximity.
3. Canal anatomy of menial roots were Type L II, III, but all distal canals showed Type I configuration.
4. Of the 60 teeth, 9 teeth showed C-shaped canal orifice.
